Leila Mackinnon

My name is Leila Mackinnon, my grandmother taught ballet and contemporary for my mother’s entire childhood. My mom danced through her life, so when I was born my brothers and I were put into dance right away. First I attended The San Diego Ballet, and the San Diego Civic Youth Ballet. My family moved us to Maui where I grew up in Makawao HI, attending Alexander Academy of Performing Arts. My last show at Alexander Academy before I moved to San Diego for school was Alice in Wonderland, where I was cast as Alice. In San Diego I attended Mira Costa College where I began studying Psychology and taking classes in Dance Teaching. I moved home to Maui in April of 2023.I am so excited to be back with the family I grew up with as a young dancer! This AAPA home has helped shape me as a person and so many of my peers and youngsters. Being back at Alexander Academy has brought happiness back to my life by welcoming me back to my AAPA family.
